fyidisco @thebrickbox - 24th March

We’re back, and for the first time fyidisco isn’t going to be outdoors! Instead The Brick Box have invited us to be part of the artistic extravaganza that is Unorthobox inside Tooting Market:

A series of events which explores idea around abandoned, empty and under-used spaces. The second Unorthobox event will be day and night of thought-provoking, creative and beautiful work, the event will be the last day of the Agora residency as well as the first birthday of Passenger Films.

From what we’ve seen of the plans it’s going to be pretty action packed event with all sorts live performances, interactive events/workshops and an abundance of artistic showcases. Not to mention bars, food, music and of course fyidisco playing iPhone DJ alongside the traditional silent disco that’s also going to be taking place. It’s going to be huge.

It’s £5 on the door and will last from 9pm till 2am so charge up your iPhones, stick some headphones in you pocket and come say hello on Saturday the 24th.

appy new year

So we’ve been squirrelled away over the winter, but rest assured here at fyidisco we haven’t been idle.

Coming up in 2012 you can expect more silent discos, more public parties, more blurry videos of people shouting power-pop and we happy to announce that thanks to our friends at DNJ you’ll be wrapping your grubby mitts on our iPhone app as soon as it starts getting warm again outside.

fyidisco will be back as soon as the sun decides to stay out past the early evening, see you all soon.

fyidisco - winter warmer - playlist

After the break we’ve got the complete playlist from our winter warmer last week. Highlights were Common People, Total Eclipse of the Heart and the epic live mashup of Harder Better Faster Stronger & Around the World by Daft Punk.

And if you’ve wondered what a bunch of strangers sound like asynchronously singing Total of the Eclipse of the Heart, whilst listening to the track via a pop-up silent disco and bathed in darkness in the middle of a wintery park…. well now you know.

The answer is a little bit amazing and a little bit scary.

fyidisco - winter warmer

Awesomeness of festival (friendly people + wicked tunes + awesomeness of the outdoors) + awesomeness of silent disco (you control the volume + you can talk to your friend) + the thrill of a mob event + all @ zero cost = fydisco @ Hyde Park!

Enjoy while it’s small and free, don’t miss next gig! Truly priceless!

— Thanks for the kind words Graciela.

FYI: fyidisco winter warmer 13/11/2011

It’s our winter warmer this Sunday, to get you all in the mood here’s what you need to know:

  • It takes place on Sunday afternoon (13/11/2011) between 14:30 and 19:00, the facebook event is here
  • We’ll be in or next to Buckhill Shelter in Hyde Park, the nearest tube station is Lancaster gate, it’s around 20 mins walk from Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch and Notting Hill Gate. You can find us on a map here
  • You need to bring an iPhone and a pair of headphones.
  • We recommend bringing along drink (mulled wine is our favourite)
  • By 17:30 it’ll start getting dark, bring a torch if you want to stay out - it’s an instant strobe light.
  • Buckhill Shelter is covered, so if it rains we’re fine, but it still might be bleedin’ cold
  • Once you get there come say hello to the DJ in the fyidisco t-shirt, all you’ll need to do to join in is connect to the fyidisco Wi-Fi network, then type “fyidisco.local” into your iPhone’s web browser.
  • If you want a track on the playlist drop us a tweet or an email

Do I need an iPhone?

Here at fyidisco one question we get asked a lot is “do I need an iPhone?”. To make things easy we just normally say yes, but that isn’t entirely true… what you need is a portable device that can make sense of HTTP Live Streamining which includes the iPod Touch, iPad and even some Android phones.
